How About the Idea of Lebron James Going to Toronto?
The 2018 Finals is over and the free agency talk begins. The biggest story is about Lebron James of the Cleveland Cavaliers. The other promising prospects were Paul George of the Oklahoma Thunder and Kawhi Leonard of the San Antonio Spurs. Teams are competing and speculations are emerging. Probably, this is one of the busiest post season free agency in the NBA.
The Lakers, the Celtics, the Sixers, the Rockets and the Spurs are among the top teams to acquire Lebron. The Lakers is all about franchise history, market value and future retirement. The Celtics, Rockets and the Sixers are all about championship chances while the Spurs is all about respect with Coach Popovich. And with Lebron's recent setbacks in the 2018 Finals, it is quite unlikely if Lebron would stay with the Cavs. Except for family considerations.
But how about the idea of Lebron James going to Toronto?
The Raptors was a strong contender in the 2017-2018 season. They're number one in the Eastern Conference. But unfortunately, they were wiped out by the Cavs in the playoff. They had the talent with deep bench but not tough enough to play against Lebron. They look scared and intimidated by Lebron. That playoff experience was a frustrating loss for the Raptors and the fans. Coach Dwane Casey was even fired right after the playoff. But with Lebron James in the starting five, they could beat any team in the league. Imagine Demar Derozan and Kyle Lowry in the backcourt combination while James could play in his natural forward position. This team can be deadly.
Another thing, the Eastern Conference is less competitive compared to the Western Conference. The Golden State Warriors and the Houston Rockets would likely meet again in the Western Conference Finals. While in the East, the Celtics and the Sixers would remain a challenge and so as the Indiana Pacers. With Kyrie Irving and Gordon Hayward back in the line up for the Celtics, the East is also interesting and it's good for the NBA and its fans.
Talking about business and future retirement? Toronto is a good market because it's the only team in Canada. Lebron's market in the U.S. and the rest of the world is already saturated. I think Canada is a good addition and it's a crazy country when it comes to sports. I can imagine the City of Toronto hosting the Finals. Oh boy, it's a wild city and the whole Canada is watching. Tickets are sold out and hotels are full. Lebronto will become a reality.
And last but not the least. The people of Canada are less prejudice against colored people compared to the White Americans. Obviously, Lebron James doesn't like Donald Trump. Lebron is so vocal about the issue of racism in America. So if Lebron would go to Toronto? It's not only sports and business, but also political.
